Botox Cosmetic Information and FAQs as provided by board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Jonathan Heistein

Botox and Dysport are cosmetic injectables designed that are commonly used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Both Botox and Dysport are excellent options for non-surgical facial rejuvenation and can provide natural-looking results. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jonathan Heisten offers Botox and Dysport injections for patients in Fort Worth and Southlake.

What Are Botox and Dysport?

Botox® and Dysport® are cosmetic injectables that are injected into facial muscles to stop movement, thereby getting rid of wrinkles, fine lines, and mild folds on the face. Both Botox and Dysport contain a purified form of botulinum toxin. When injected into the facial muscles, Botox and Dysport prevent the nerves from signaling the muscles to contract, resulting in temporary paralysis of the muscles.

Botox Cosmetic Considerations

During your Botox Cosmetic consultation with Jonathan Heistein, M.D., he will answer questions you may have about the procedure or treatment and will discuss any safety concerns related to the surgery.

How Botox and Dysport Treat Wrinkles

In the treatment of wrinkles, there are two basic types of wrinkles: dynamic and static.

Dynamic wrinkles are present only when the muscle is moving. Botox® and Dysport® are used in this situation to prevent the motion of the muscle and thereby prevent the development of the wrinkle. The most common dynamic wrinkles on the face are on the forehead, in between the eyebrows, at the corners of the eyes (Crow’s feet), and across the bridge of the nose (the bunny nose).

Static wrinkles are visible whether the muscle is moving or not. Any dynamic wrinkle could eventually become a static wrinkle. Using Botox® or Dysport® on the muscle responsible for that wrinkle may allow the skin to smooth out over time, but it could also require other procedures such as facelift, browlift, or skin resurfacing with . Currently, Botox® and Dysport® are approved to treat the glabellar region (between the eyebrows ).
