Procedures like a breast augmentation and breast lift are primarily performed for aesthetic reasons and are therefore typically not covered by the patient’s insurance. In many cases, breast reduction surgery is different. It’s often performed for medical reasons. In these cases, the procedure may be covered in part or fully by insurance.

If a person’s disproportionately large breasts are causing them to experience chronic pain in their back, neck, or shoulders, their breast reduction procedure may be covered by their insurance. The amount of breast tissue that needs to be removed is also a factor that will be used to determine if the procedure will be covered.
